Scientists found a significant decrease in the nightly peak of melatonin, flight fatigue after long flights and to the clinical disorder of jet lag (Coste O et al 2004).

The results found that when melatonin is taken within hours of the bedtime travel destination, jet lag is significantly decreased across multiple time zones. The study examined a wide range of dosages but found the most benefit when taking 0.5 to 5mg of melatonin daily. Any level beyond 5mg does not appear to be effective.
